Welcome to Day 2 of the new Richie Sowa's Spiral Island History webportal site.
After an illness kept me (Randy McCallum) from updating the Spiral Island blogsite on Google's Blogger last year after starting it, I decided it was time to get busy sorting and creating a new webportal to house a history of Richie Sowa and his famous Spiral Island.
You may have seen Richie Sowa and his Spiral Island on Ripley's Believe it or Not, or the Spanish TeleMondo channel. You may have been fortunate enough to meet him in person, and if you did he would have surely given you his famous spiral handshake.
Welcome to the all new Richie Sowa Spiral Island webportal, a site dedicated to Richie Sowa and the history of Spiral Island. Richie Sowa spent years planning and building this labour of love ecological wonder, and I have been busy working on this history of Spiral Island webportal to show the world in photos and story what one man can do to help change the world for the better.
Richie Sowa has many wonderful helpful friends, and one such friend was the ever helpful, late Kenny Coleman, another British Expatriate who helped Richie with his island building tasks during 2000 and 2001. For over 2 years Kenny could be seen with Richie at Spiral Island or at one of the many restaurants in Puerto Aventuras. Kenny passed away suddenly of a heart attck in the summer 2002 and he is sadly missed.
On many occassions, Kenny and I would drive over to Puerto Aventuras from the Paamul RV resort where we lived. We would meet Richie for breakfast, spend some time on the Internet doing emails, and then head over to Spiral Island to help Richie with his island maintenance.
Yes, the island was a breathing, living ecosystem and it constantly needed to be bouyed from sinking into the salt water. This was done by adding more plastic bottles for floatation.
